Inventory of media, technology, events, and other outputs produced from March 2010 to March 2014
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT established the SHARP program to support innovative research and to address well-documented problems that impede the adoption and use of health IT. The SHARP program covers four subject areas:
- Security of Health Information Technology (SHARPS): led by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, SHARPS developed technologies and policy recommendations that reduce privacy and security risks and increase public trust.
- Patient-centered Cognitive Support (SHARPc): led by the University of Texas, Houston, SHARPc provided technology and guidelines to improve physician usability of health IT.
- Health Care Application and Network Design (SMART): led by Harvard University, SMART developed application programming interfaces (APIs) to support the exchange of health information between health care providers and the accessibility of health information to patients.
- Secondary Use of EHR Information (SHARPn): led by Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic of Medicine, SHARPn created tools and resources to facilitate effective use of electronic clinical data captured by EHRs and similar systems.

The SHARP program produced over 490 unique products during its four year span. Each of the unique SHARP product types (e.g., publication) is grouped into one of four distinct categories, as shown in the legend below.
