Dr. David Butler brings a successful history of hands-on and senior management accomplishments and work experiences that span multiple fields: business, clinical practice, academic research, relational information management, informatics, and analytics. He has worked and taught across the healthcare industry, including clinical, hospital, managed care, health insurance, medical information, and e-commerce. He has over a decade of experience consulting with large corporations and organizations about better ways to analyze, utilize, and coordinate information across all individuals in the way they can best apply this information to their need.

He as published academic research and book chapters, plus served on the National Health Policy Council during the Clinton administration, as well as the USP Drug Information Advisory Committee. His current role is to provide business assessments and create cross-enterprise solutions for healthcare and life science companies and organizations. His focus is on utilizing an information architecture built to apply artificial intelligence and computerized decision-making for operational plans that coordinate care, operations, supply chain, and financials.
David’s early career combined expertise across healthcare, life science, and technology in both business and academia. A published author in medical journals and books, his academic research included computerized medical decision-making and outcomes analytics. As faculty at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis School of Engineering, he taught graduate students in database management systems as well as courses in Web development and Scripting. He also taught and conducted research in colleges of pharmacy that focused on drug information, computerized medical decision-making, and therapeutics.


Dr. Butler was Director of Clinical Program Management at Express Scripts, where he was a member of the leadership team and Chief Pharmacist for yourPharmacy.com and DrugDigest.org, which ESI sold for $600 million. Dr. Butler served as CIO, Option Care, Inc.; Director of Technology Information Services, University Hospital Consortium; Director of Iowa Drug Information Services (IDIS), The University of Iowa; Manager of Information Systems, Wolters-Kluwer; and Director, St. Louis Regional Drug Information Center at Jewish Hospital, St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Butler also served as Chair of ASHP Drug Information Special Interest Group and worked on several working groups for ASHP, NCPDP, APhA, and HL7. In addition, he has been involved in start-up companies, including his most recent: www.CURATRO.com, combining robotics, database and the Web to interweave physician offices and community pharmacies. He is currently Chair on an EHR Working Group on Electronic Health Records for Pharmacy.
David earned a Doctor of Pharmacy at University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences, a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at University of Houston and a Master of Business Administration at The University of Iowa Executive MBA program, plus a Residency in Ambulatory Care-Drug Information at the University of Tennessee-City of Memphis Hospital.
