Derek De Young is a Director of Research and Development at Epic, focusing on advancing collaboration and connectivity between payers and providers. Continuously collaborating with Epic community members, Derek identifies and prioritizes development initiatives that enhance clinical outcomes, reduce administrative burden, and drive a better patient experience. His team at Epic aids healthcare providers and payers in simplifying clinical data sharing, automating prior authorization, closing care gaps, and bringing more transparency to patients and members by helping them understand their insurance benefits and the cost of healthcare.

Previously at Epic, Derek was a leader in Patient Access Development, enabling more efficient financial clearance, authorizations, and referrals. This included streamlining the patient registration process, allowing patients to conveniently e-check-in through MyChart. Additionally, he worked in release of information development, providing guidance to a software development team to facilitate the release of clinical data for treatment, payment, and operational purposes.

Derek De Young contributes as a member of the TEFCA Payment and Operations Workgroup and the HL7 Da Vinci Project. In these roles, he collaborates on establishing industry standards and operational procedures within the payer-provider interoperability domain.
